Carlo Ancelotti hails Chelsea strikers The win over Copenhagen relieved some of the pressure on Ancelotti Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has praised his strikers after the 2-0 win over Copenhagen in the first leg of their last 16 Champions League tie. Nicolas Anelka scored twice after starting alongside Fernando Torres, while Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou came on late in the game. Asked if they were the best in Europe, Ancelotti said: "Yes, I think. "We want to maintain their fitness, but rotation could do them good with the Premier League and Champions League." Claudio Ranieri resigns as coach of Serie A side Roma Ranieri managed Chelsea between 2000 and 2004 Former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri has resigned as coach of Serie A side Roma after they crashed to a fourth-successive defeat. Roma imploded at Genoa on Sunday, going down 4-3, having at one stage led 3-0. The defeat leaves Roma nine points behind city rivals Lazio in fourth spot, which provides the chance to qualify for the Champions League. Ranieri, who managed Chelsea from 2000 to 2004, took charge of Roma in September 2009. The 59-year-old Italian has also coached a number of other Serie A teams, including Juventus, as well as Spanish clubs Valencia and Atletico Madrid. In midweek, Roma's Champions League campaign suffered a severe setback after the 3-2 home defeat by Shakhtar Donetsk in the Stadio Olimpico.
